Not a very inspiring title, right? 😀 Well you are correct, but it seems to be the endgame of our “High and Mighty”. Instead of halving the fuel price for everyone and everything, they apply other parameters, such as excise duties, that allow truck drivers to regain only partially fuel expense and only past ones (i.e. already paid). Business is not getting any easier these days…

One should remember that under the new regulations, applied since the end of 2014, this opportunity is not available to Euro 0 vehicles nor Euro 1 and 2 as established by the latest “Stability Law 2016”: feeling like Wile E. Coyote rather than the Roadrunner, don’t you?
What can we do? We all close our businesses and watch who is going to transport goods, and where!!!
Seriously, we cannot do that; it would cause unspeakable problems to our country and so many businesses hurting innocent people in the process. So let us analyze the problem to find alternatives that are more viable.
Solution 0: change vehicle (and do it yesterday!)
Wake up, my friend, should i tell you everything? Am I some kind of Italian oracle? Come on, sell your piece of junk for scraps, or, better yet, ALL your rusty truck fleet, then go to your favorite dealer and buy many new trucks…and indebt yourself like there is no tomorrow to a smiling vampire, bank! What is that face? Remember that we must help the #Kardashians, keep #CarManifactures in business #SupportEconomy. And with all the world problems the people is #Trump…eting around we absolutely MUST help also the Banks!!! Just DO it already!! Do not be a #Loser!

OK, do not stress out, Iwas just pulling your leg a little 😀
So, really, what can we do?
Solution 1: Electrical retrofit (very expensive)
The Italian Official Journal, on the issue Nr. 7 of last January, has published the Regulation N. 219, 1 December 2015, regarding electrical retrofitting destined to M and N1 vehicles.
The regulation establishes type-approval technical and administrative procedures for electrical retrofitting systems destined to equip cars, busses and trucks with traditional motors, in order to provide exclusively electrical traction.
Benefits for citizens are many: first the possibility to retrofit their cars to be able to enter limited access areas of their cities without buying a new one.
For companies as well there are many benefits, in particular new business opportunities for components manufacturers, certified systems assemblers and all the auto-repair shop owners qualified to perform the electrical retrofit, consisting in the removal of the old engine and installation of the electrical one.
Trucking companies will be able to requalify their truck fleets, especially those vehicles employed in transporting goods inside urban areas; even public transportation companies would be able to renovate their fleets without actually buying new vehicles.
Solution 2: Class upgrade to Euro 5 (acceptable)
This solution does not impose a “major” change on the vehicle, just the installation of a particulate filter in order to reduce the emissions to within the acceptable range required for Euro 4 or even 5a.
This is not the usual Italian con; you can really get the proper certification for your vehicle class upgrade.
This would mean:
- You can get from Euro 0 to Euro 5a.
- The vehicle can increases its value from hundreds to thousands of euros. This is because Euro 1 or 2 are essentially worthless, while Euro 4 or 5a ones they can still be utilized and thus, sold.
- Euro 1, 2 or 3 cannot enter urban restricted areas while superior classes like Euro4 and 5a have not such limitations
- M1, M2 and M3, bus and coaches, will be also able to access restricted areas of major cities, including those of touristic interests, with many beneficial effects for all parties involved (tour operators, local jobs…
The certification attesting the upgrade of a coach from Euro 2 or 3 to Euro4 or 5a means the opportunity for a business to continue to use its still operating fleet, without being forced to increase its fees. It means also to have a vehicle that can enter the city center of ROME, for instance, or with a value of a few tenth of thousands euros rather than be just a rust bucket.
You could take note of the fact that in Rome usually enters an average of 1000 coaches per day, with traffic peaks of 6500. Since transportation companies are having a tough time, both public and privet ones, can you imagine the damage to the economy a touristic city like Rome would suffer if the number of visiting tourist was halved due to insufficient transportation? What if we multiply this number for all the tourist destinations, all the transport companies, all the small and local businesses that earn their living with tourism? #Tragedy…or you can #BeCool,
